I think I finally cracked it. The moment I became a full-blown, pop-culture-obsessed geek. The year was 1983, I was 7 years old, and my dad took me to see a movie.
"This is a real movie," he said. "Not a cartoon. A REAL movie."
He made it sound like a rite of passage—and he was right.

The movie? Krull.
Never heard of it? That's fair. It's one of the most unhinged genre mashups ever made. Imagine Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars at a Renaissance Faire inside a Laser Tag arena. It's got knights. It's got aliens. It's got space horses. And a glaive that looks like a fidget spinner from hell. My 7-year-old brain exploded, and I never recovered.

That's why I love Star Wars and Star Trek and Lord of the Rings and Army of the Dead and literally anything that has swords, spaceships, or time travel. It all started with that one chaotic, magical, totally ridiculous movie.
